Secure Code Review
Reviewing your application’s actual source code for the vulnerabilities dynamic testing alone can miss.
Who this is for: Development teams that want vulnerabilities found in code before it ships, not just tested against the running application afterward.
The Problem
Dynamic testing (like a penetration test) finds what’s exploitable in a running application, but some vulnerabilities, a subtle logic flaw, an insecure cryptographic implementation, are far easier to catch by actually reading the code.
Our Solution
We review source code manually, supported by static analysis tooling, focused on the vulnerability classes that dynamic testing tends to miss.
What's included
- Manual secure code review
- Static analysis tooling (SAST) integration
- Authentication and cryptography implementation review
- Business-logic flaw identification in code
- Prioritized findings with specific remediation guidance
This is typically scoped alongside Web Application Security or DevSecOps engagements, source code access allows us to confirm findings precisely and catch issues that black-box testing alone wouldn’t surface.
Benefits
- Vulnerability classes dynamic testing alone tends to miss
- Precise findings tied to specific lines of code, not just symptoms
- A stronger complement to, not a replacement for, dynamic testing
Our Process
Scope
Identify the codebase and areas of highest risk.
Static Analysis
Run automated tooling as a first pass.
Manual Review
Review high-risk areas by hand.
Report
Findings tied to specific code locations, with fixes.
Retest
Confirm fixes were implemented correctly.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need to share our full codebase?
Scope is agreed in advance, often focused on the highest-risk components (authentication, payment handling, data access) rather than requiring a full-codebase review.
Is this a replacement for penetration testing?
No, the two find different things; code review catches issues visible in the source, penetration testing catches issues visible in the running, deployed application. They work best together.
